Was nominated for a 2020 Grammy in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category. You can hear his music on many blues & roots radio stations in the US and around the world. The new album “Soft Hard & Loud” was released on and quickly rose to #1 and remained in the Top 10 for 12 weeks. Each and every release has met with rave reviews. All released on his own label, Blue Rock Records. Since 2003, Dennis has released 7 successful CDs, and a DVD. He also spent a few years playing guitar with The Bus Boys (the boys are back in town) and with The Zac Harmon Band, when they won first place in the 2004 Blues Music Awards Competition in Memphis TN. Dennis has written songs for other notable artists as well. And he isn’t afraid to tackle the controversial issues of today. He writes songs that seamlessly blend the best of both worlds, presenting a unique and contemporary style of American rock and blues. Check out a live show, and you’ll instantly agree, this band ROCKS the blues like NO other! Dennis’s feet are firmly rooted in the past, yet his heart and soul are connected to the present. The band’s latest release is the 2017 Until The End. Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express is known as a quintessential zydeco dancers’ band, playing not only tunes that are a joy to dance to, but are musically sophisticated as well. The film features Horace, a Louisiana Cajun, and his father-in-law, Rodney Bernard, a Louisiana Creole, and the ties that bind them musically, geographically, culturally, spiritually, and universally. In 2013, he and his wife, Chantelle produced the documentary, “Cajun & Creole: Black & White”. Menard, he released his first cd, Ossun Blues, when he was 20, and in 2000 he formed his own band. At 18 he was on the road touring with the great D.L. Horace was a natural and booked his first gig within six months of learning to play. Horace bought his first guitar when he was 12, and had been playing some saxophone since the 5th grade, but when he expressed an interest in playing the accordion at 15, his father brought him to Felix Richard, a strong accordionist and first cousin who lived in Cankton, LA. He is known as the creator of the much-covered zyde-cajun classic, “That Butt Thing”, and no stranger to controversy when, in the middle of a successful career in the early 2000s, he defied stereotypes and switched his focus from Cajun to zydeco music-something relatively unheard of in his Louisiana Cajun community at the time. As an album, it’s an interesting curiosity. The drama, the sense of occasion, the newness of it all. One of Weller’s most soulful recordings, here it’s left sounding like the theme tune to an 80s US sitcom.Īs a live gig it all makes absolute sense. “Broken Stones”, Stanley Road’s high water mark, is one such example. Sometimes, one is simply left with a yearning to hear the original, rather than fully engage with the new. That is, to be clear, a huge recommendation. The addition of a Mariachi brass intro to “My Ever Changing Moods” is a surprisingly satisfying choice, while the subsequent string arrangement introduces a distinctly northern soul flavour with staccato stabs that bring to mind Curtis Mayfield, The Rotary Connection and Colliery Bands all at once. “Wildwood” is similarly gorgeous, though this is at least as much to do with the presence of Celeste, whose soft and certain tone lifts the song every bit as much as the bucolic brass and swooping strings. The dramatic, widescreen introduction to 1988's “It’s a Very Deep Sea” gives way to a gentle film-score interpretation that suits the song beautifully, changing its character without replacing its identity. ![]() When this album works, it does exactly that. No stranger to a bow or two, an orchestral rework could give a little boost to those emotional swells, lift his impeccable songcraft to new heights… right? With Weller, at least, the concept seems to make more sense. Their perennial popularity is a staggering question mark over our collective cultural integrity. The Hacienda Classical and Ibiza Classics projects (the latter featuring Buckley and his Heritage Orchestra) were woefully misconceived – the answer to a question no one ever asked. The tendency, in recent years, to tie up musical nostalgia in strings, is unfathomable in some senses. The tracks here lean heavily into more recent releases such as True Meanings, On Sunset and Fat Pop, although there are pleasing nods to his time heading up The Jam and The Style Council, most notably in the inclusion of fan favourite “English Rose” and wedding waltz must-have “You’re the Best Thing”. Career retrospective might be pushing it a bit, in fairness. ![]() ![]() ![]() While it’s not on par with the iO, this toothbrush still has a showy side, with light-up icons and flashing LED icons to show you which brush mode you have selected or if the battery is low, and a built in light around the top of the handle that you can customise to your preference. Costing £150, it’s a much more accessible option, and while it might not tout the smarts of its younger sibling, it still offers a very similar connected brushing experience. However, with a gum-bleeding £500 RRP, users wanting something smart are considering Oral-B’s older (and much cheaper) alternative, the Oral-B Genius 9000. Released just last year, it boasts the most impressive toothbrush tech you can get your hands on right now. The firm’s latest and greatest - the iO Series 9 - is a shining example of such innovation. For the past few years, the company has invested in adding cutting-edge developments to its electric toothbrush series in the form of connectivity and artificial intelligence (AI). To stay ahead of the game, Oral-B has had to innovate offering consumers tech not previously seen in its rivals. ![]() Still, due to the fast-advancing world of technology, Oral-B is faced with stiff competition from the likes of Philips and its Sonicare range, which has swiftly become the second most popular electric toothbrush brand in the world thanks to its powerful vibrating heads that produce up to 62000 brush strokes per minute. ![]() ![]() This took about 28 hours and 24 minutes, to give you a baseline. Numerous TV shows and movies romanticize the occupation, feeding into a belief that medicine is the grandest and noblest of professions. For the 60 or so years that physicians have been able to actually cure people there has been an increasing fetishization of the field. I started the ball rolling thusly: “What do you guys think is your duty to society, and how do you feel it is different from that of your peers going into other fields? Should all doctors have to work full-time?”Īlexandra Charrow: Implicit in what you’re asking is the question of whether doctors are “special,” so special that we should be required to work additional hours and so integral to society that we have additional duties. Driving the debate was the question of whether being a doctor is in some way exceptional, more important to society than any other profession. What follows are excerpts of that roundtable conversation. We recruited other students to participate, including second-years Alexandra Charrow, Derek Mazique and Ofole Mgbako. In the wake of Sibert’s column, Gina Siddiqui, a medical student at University of Pennsylvania, where I teach, and I launched our own conversation about being a doctor-in-training and how doctors ultimately fit into the future of health care in the U.S. Sibert’s piece likely sparked countless conversations - and moments of doubt - at medical schools around the country. Medicine shouldn’t be a part-time interest to be set aside if it becomes inconvenient it deserves to be a life’s work.” But “if you want to be a doctor, be a doctor,” wrote Sibert, an anesthesiologist, concluding: “Patients need doctors to take care of them. If you want to work and be a mother, then you can find a job in journalism or professional cooking or law. “You can’t have it all,” Sibert wrote, exhorting students - women mostly - to remember that “medical education is a privilege, not an entitlement, and it confers a real moral obligation to serve.” Karen Sibert’s advice to students considering careers in medicine, in a controversial New York Times op-ed last summer. Your squad can provide cover fire and support, but they also die easily. Trying to play at the default difficulty is murder. And this was on the easiest difficulty setting. There is a quick save and a quick load that you'll need to use early and often, as you'll get cut down without warning a lot. For instance, if you take a couple of hits early on, it's usually best to just start the mission over because odds are you'll never survive the middle and later parts of the level, especially since you can't heal. You have to carefully ration your health bar or else you'll find yourself in a bad spot. ![]() Part of that is the nature of the gameplay, which is very unforgiving, but it's also due to the huge size of the levels. While this kind of realistic authenticity is the hallmark of Ghost Recon games on the PC, GRAW 2 is a lot tougher than its predecessors. And if you do manage to find a place to resupply, you do not heal. Even worse, a hit in the wrong place will kill you no matter what, so the PC version is very much one shot, one kill. You have a fairly small health bar, and it can be drained relatively quickly. It's all about moving slowly, using cover, and suppressing the enemy with cover fire. If you try to run-and-gun through you'll get cut down within seconds. In the PC version, the pace is a lot slower and more methodical. You can sprint your way through the Xbox 360 game, knowing that you can heal up easily whenever you hit a resupply point. The major difference between the two versions is that the Xbox 360 is much more action focused, while the PC is a lot more simulation heavy. In essence, this is basically a retelling of the Xbox 360 game. While the PC version features entirely new levels and environments, it does lift many of the story elements and voice-overs from the Xbox 360 version. Army Special Forces unit, must stop them. That trend continues with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, which again comes in a separate PC version that's tailored for the platform. That way, Xbox 360 gamers could get a third-person action game while PC gamers could get a hardcore first-person shooter.
